In the UNITED STATES, about 17.9 million people are diagnosed with Diaetes and another 5.7 million are undiagnosed. 90% to 95% of the people diagnosed with diabetes have type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a disorder that affects how the body uses food for growth and energy.
The AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION recommends adult testing to detect prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in those with no risk factor beginning at age 45. Testing should be done in adults with the following risk factors: overweight or obese and have one or more additional risk factors for diabetes:
Physical inactivity
Family history of diabetes
Having the following Ethnicity: African American, Alaska Native, American Indian, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, or Pacific Islander
History of giving birth to 9 pounds baby
Having high blood pressure
History of Cardiovascular Disease
If you have 2 or more Risk Factors, contact your PRIMARY PHYSICIAN to be tested for Diabetes...
